Joint Commission Accreditation (JCAHO)

Joint Commission Accredited Drug & Alcohol Rehab Facility

When you finally make the decision to get treatment for addiction, it’s crucial that you choose a rehab center that is reliable, trustworthy, and capable of meeting your needs. Finding a quality addiction treatment program can be challenging, but an easy way to find excellent care is to look for facilities that have earned the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission (also known as the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations or JCAHO).

The Gold Seal of Approval symbolizes a treatment center’s JCAHO accreditation. JCAHO-accredited programs have demonstrated a dedication and commitment to facilitating safe, effective, and high-quality care.

Sheer Recovery is pleased to have earned accreditation by the Joint Commission, ensuring we are able to provide our clients and their families with the highest quality of care possible.

What is the Joint Commission (JCAHO)?

The Joint Commission is an organization that aims to improve the quality of all types of healthcare facilities in the United States. Its mission is to continuously improve healthcare for the public by evaluating healthcare organizations and providing them with a unified set of standards that inspire safe and effective patient care. JCAHO has been working for 70 years to improve healthcare facilities and they have accredited over 20,000 organizations across the nation.

Why is Sheer Recovery’s JCAHO Accreditation Significant?

Seeking accreditation is an entirely voluntary process and not all addiction treatment facilities have earned third-party accreditation. Accreditation is something that is only awarded to healthcare facilities that consistently provide outstanding care.

When applying for accreditation, a team of healthcare experts visit the rehab facility and carry out an on-site review to evaluate the program’s performance. There are many areas of the program that are evaluated, including:

  • Continuing care programs
  • Employee background checks
  • Ethics
  • Evidence-based therapies
  • Leadership and management
  • Medication safety
  • Patient care and safety
  • Staff credentials and licensure
  • Treatment environment

Treatment centers that do not meet the standards set forth by the Joint Commission are not given accreditation. Only treatment facilities that are able to consistently demonstrate quality care and patient safety are able to earn third-party accreditation.

Accreditation isn’t a title you can purchase. It is a long, rigorous process that is only attained by the best healthcare providers in the industry. And, once accreditation is earned, facilities must work to maintain a standard of excellence, or else they risk losing their accredited status.

At Sheer Recovery, we strive to provide each client with the individually-tailored, evidence-based treatment they deserve. We uphold our JCAHO accreditation year after year, demonstrating our ability to stay up to date with the latest, most effective treatments and our dedication to maintaining a safe, supportive environment for our clients.

How Sheer Recovery Maintains Joint Commission Accreditation and Ensures Quality Care

The Joint Commission requires all accredited organizations to collect data and actively search for ways to improve their performance and patient care. At Sheer Recovery, we are constantly reviewing the efficacy of our programs and adapting to the needs of patients so we can provide the most effective treatment possible.

Every 39 months, rehab facilities must undergo reaccreditation. All accredited centers must also submit quarterly data to the Joint Commission, and the information is presented on JCAHO’s Quality Check website for the public to access.

Additionally, JCAHO regularly updates its standards for drug and alcohol rehab centers, so we are also regularly updating our program to align with these standards. A few of the standards set forth by JCAHO that we meet and excel in include:

  • Offer adequate treatment and management of pain
  • Use drug testing to promote safety and quality of care
  • Assess and facilitate care that is appropriate for the needs, strengths, preferences, and goals of the individual being treated
  • Place individuals in the appropriate level of care based on their needs
  • Ethical principles are used to guide the organization’s practices
  • Upon discharge, clients are met with a continuity of care, treatment, or maintenance services

One characteristic that sets us apart from other accredited rehab facilities is our staff-to-client ratio. In our residential program, we only treat six people at a time, which gives each client more time for individualized care and one-to-one attention. A small, intimate setting gives out clients an opportunity to get better faster and experience improved treatment outcomes.

The 6-bed model also promotes enhanced performance from our dedicated therapists. Since our therapists aren’t stretched thin across 40-50 clients, they are able to adapt quickly to each client’s needs and embrace diverse therapeutic modalities all the while facilitating high-quality, evidence-driven care.

Sheer Recovery has gone to great lengths to successfully earn and maintain JCAHO accreditation since 2017.
