Orange County Drug and Alcohol Detox Center

How We Can Change the Relapse Statistics

Millions of Americans struggle with drug and alcohol abuse. If you or a loved one is struggling with a substance use disorder, recovery begins with comprehensive care in a residential detox facility. Drug and alcohol detox is the first step to recovery, and at Sheer Recovery, we ensure every patient receives comprehensive, compassionate, and effective care.

Sheer Recovery is an Orange County drug detox and rehabilitation facility, offering custom care, personalized recovery plans, a low patient/staff ratio, and a focus on individual recovery. We understand that no two patients are alike. We understand that addiction is complex and multifaceted. And, we know that recovering from an addiction is a lot more than quitting a substance. At our southern California detox center, you’ll experience personalized care, complete medical monitoring, and attention to every detail to ensure you have the tools to move forward with your recovery.

What is Drug and Alcohol Detox?

Drug and alcohol detox is the medically controlled process of withdrawing from a substance. It’s the first stage of most recovery programs, because it’s the process of removing physical dependence. Most rehabilitation centers will work to treat the most dangerous symptoms of addiction first as well as those that get in the way of actual treatment. Physical addiction falls under both categories.

At Sheer Recovery, the process of detox heavily depends on the individual, their volume and type of substance abuse, and their health. However, it will always involve medical monitoring, counseling, medical treatment, and steps to ensure your comfort and dignity as you begin to withdraw. If you’re looking for drug and alcohol detox in Orange County, Sheer Recovery is here for you.

What are the Signs and Symptoms of Withdrawal?

Drug and alcohol withdrawal is difficult and can be traumatic. While the signs and symptoms will vary considerably depending on the substance in question, most detox and withdrawal will follow the same pattern.

  • Cold and flu symptoms
  • General anxiety
  • Sweating
  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Tremors or shaking
  • Seizures (alcohol, some drugs)
  • Short term concentration and memory problems
  • General malaise
  • Headaches
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach pain
  • Heart palpitations or arrhythmia
  • Muscle pain

These symptoms will range from moderate to very severe. In some cases, they can be life-threatening. It's important to evaluate the drugs you are using, your health, and the potential severity of withdrawal before attempting to do so alone. Some drugs such as alcohol and benzodiazepines require strict medical monitoring to prevent dangerous side-effects during withdrawal.

This includes medical attention to prevent side-effects like chronic withdrawal symptoms or Delirium Tremens. It also includes emotional and psychological support to reduce the effects of trauma and withdrawal and to offer support for dual-diagnosis withdrawal.

Therapy and Counseling

Detox is the first step towards a full recovery and it’s important that you have access to therapy and counseling throughout. This is important, because detox sets the foundations for the rest of your recovery, whether you’re attending Sheer Recovery for a full residential program or seeking treatment elsewhere.

Sheer Recovery focuses on personalized and compassionate care. Our executive detox center offers comfort, dignity, and one-on-one care from qualified medical professionals. We ensure you have the care you need to recover and move on with your life.

Types of Detox at Sheer Recovery

Sheer Recovery offers drug and alcohol detox personalized to the individual, meaning that the care, medication, and treatment you receive will vastly vary depending on your specific circumstances. Any detox will depend on factors such as your level of substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, and mental and physical health.

Residential Detox – Sheer Recovery offers numerous residential centers, including our Orange County drug detox facility. Residential detox involves residential stay at our beautiful facility, 24/7 medical support from staff, full medical monitoring, and a treatment program depending on your intake results.

Social Detox – In some cases, your results or substance abuse may align with social detox. Here, you completely stop drug and alcohol use during detox and are not given any prescription medication to ease symptoms. This allows you to withdraw at your own pace, but also forces you to experience the worst of withdrawal symptoms. For this reason, social detox is typically only used with drugs with a light withdrawal profile or for individuals who cannot tolerate withdrawal medication. Social detox should only be used in situations with medical supervision, to ensure that any complications can be treated quickly to prevent worsening.

Medical Detox – Most patients will receive prescription medication to ease symptoms, prevent relapse, and to help speed up withdrawal. These drugs will dramatically vary depending on the substance being abused, but will typically include muscle relaxants such as benzodiazepines, opioid agonists such as methadone or buprenorphine, and a range of medication intended to ease symptoms, prevent seizures, and speed up the detox process. Medical detox can help you to recover more quickly and thoroughly and may include an ongoing maintenance program for several months or even years after recovery.

Sheer Recovery offers drug and alcohol detox for most substances. This includes but is not limited to:

alcohol

Alcohol Detox – Alcohol is one of the most accepted and frequently abused substances in the world, with an estimated 80% of Americans drinking. However, alcohol withdrawal is dangerous, can result in permanent complications, and can be life-threatening. Individuals struggling with alcohol abuse require medical monitoring and will typically receive medication to reduce symptoms such as seizures and tremors. In some cases, alcohol withdrawal develops into Delirium Tremens.

Benzodiazepines

Benzodiazepine Detox– Benzodiazepines are one of the most commonly prescribed medications, but they are very addictive. Benzos include Librium, Lorazepam, Klonopin, Valium, and Xanax. Even regular prescription users can become physically dependent, which will eventually lead to dependence and addiction. Most importantly, withdrawing from benzodiazepines is a long and sometimes-dangerous process requiring strict management and medical monitoring. You may be prescribed a tapering schedule or medication to ease withdrawal symptoms to prevent tremors, delirium, and hallucinations. Sheer Recovery offers a benzodiazepine detox program, designed to help individuals safely recover, without the trauma of strong side-effects.

Opioids

Prescription Pain Pills Detox – Prescription painkillers such as Vicodin, Hydrocodone, morphine, codeine, fentanyl, and oxycodone are among the most frequently abused drugs in the world. They’re also one of the most dangerous, with opiates contributing to over 30 deaths daily in the United States alone. Detoxing from opiate painkillers means going through a severe withdrawal phase where users experience cravings, lethargy, strong cold and flu symptoms such as vomiting, tremors, anxiety, paranoia, increased blood pressure, and an increase in agitation and irritability. Our Orange County Drug Detox Program offers support for opiate detox, including medication to ease symptoms and speed up withdrawal, maintenance medication to prevent cravings and relapse, and full clinical support.

marijuana

Heroin Detox– Heroin is a street drug, but it is an opiate. Like prescription pain pills, heroin users should use medical monitoring to ensure safe recovery. Most users will experience the same symptoms as listed above for prescription pain pills.

Amphetamines

Amphetamines – Amphetamines, including methamphetamine and prescription medication, are frequently abused but highly addictive and typically difficult to withdraw from. Users experience a strong crash after use, which worsens into depression, anxiety, aggression, and emotional blunting as well as severe cravings. While less dangerous, amphetamines are very difficult to quit on your own.

Sheer Recovery offers a complete drug and alcohol detox program designed to tackle individual needs. We also offer complete support for dual-diagnosis, specialty programs for women, and a selection of follow-up treatment options including intensive outpatient and full-residential care.

Do I Need Drug or Alcohol Detox?

If you experience withdrawal symptoms when attempting to quit drugs or alcohol, you will likely benefit from drug or alcohol detox. However, not everyone does. You can take one of our online assessments to determine if you might need detox. We also offer complete toxicology testing during intake, which will determine how you are treated and why. You should receive a minimum of medical care in any case where quitting a drug results in medically significant symptoms.

This is important for most individuals because even seemingly harmless symptoms can be fatal to someone who’s health is already damaged by drug abuse. Diarrhea and vomiting can result in dehydration. Seizures can cause potentially life-long damage. And, many individuals struggling with a weak heart, existing anxiety, or paranoia require medical care to safely withdraw at all.

Benefits of Drug and Alcohol Detox

Sheer Recovery offers a comprehensive drug and alcohol detox program designed to meet individual needs. Our Southern California Detox Center houses qualified and caring staff, comfortable surroundings, and a beautiful locale. While some of the intent is to help you feel comfortable and to remove as much of the stress from detox as possible, drug and alcohol detox at Sheer Recovery offers numerous advantages.

You receive a personalized medical detox program designed to meet your specific needs.
  • Emotional Support – Withdrawal is traumatic and painful. Even with medical support, you’ll likely experience some anxiety, paranoia, and depression. That’s one of the reasons why the staff at Sheer Recovery are available 24/7 to offer the support you need.
  • Psychological Support – Anxiety, depression, emotional blunting, paranoia, and strong cravings are all common during detox. Withdrawing from a substance is an emotional period and it is one where you can benefit from psychological support. While you may not receive cognitive behavioral therapy until you complete detox, you will have access to clinical staff offering the support you need to recover.
