Pharmacogenomic Testing

PGx testing provides medically actionable, clinically relevant data and interpretation for our doctor and clinical staff. Genes play an important role in determining the right drug and dosing for a particular condition. A treatment that works for one individual may not work, or may cause severe side effects, for another individual. Pharmacogenomics is a field of personalized medicine that screens an individual’s DNA to determine the optimal treatment for that individual based on their genetic code.

PGx testing analyzes genetic variants for 14 genes providing medical clinicians with evidence based information for over 40 commonly prescribed medication across over 13 medication classes. Each client receives a personalized report of their genetic test result upon completion of treatment.

Medication Management

Medication Therapy Management is the new standard of care in addiction treatment.  Medication management is the monitoring of medications that a patient takes to confirm that he or she is complying with a medication regimen. MTM also ensures the patient is avoiding potentially dangerous drug interactions and other complications.

Since 60-89% of people currently attending addiction treatment programs are taking some type of prescribed medication, MTM becomes crucial to successful outcomes. Sheer Recovery utilizes the most advanced combination of Pharmacogenomic testing and Toxicology. Pharmacogenomics is the study of how genes affect a person’s response to medication. PGx also seeks to predict what response an individual will have to a drug. Human drug metabolism is largely an inherited trait.By combining both Pharmacogenomic Testing and traditional Urine Testing we are have the capability to insure better results with fewer errors, and more useful testing data.

Why Sheer Recovery

At Sheer Recovery the medical and clinical staff work together to facilitate the client care.  All services are supported with state of the art technologies and executive care accommodations.  The services are highlighted by a 1:1 client to staff ratio.  The complete clinical plan is comprised of three separate phases.  The following is an outline of each phase and what to expect throughout the process.

PHASE 1: Detox and Residential Stabilization

Upon admission the client enters our Detox and Residential Phase.  Our detox properties offer the following accommodations: sweeping ocean views, private and semi-private rooms, well prepared meals, 24/7 staff support, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, and many other amenities.

The support of a comfortable environment is important, but only supplements the overall process.   In Detox the physical and emotional withdrawal symptoms must immediately be addressed. We begin with a comprehensive toxicology report

Once we have an understanding of what toxins are in the body you will have a face to face meeting with our Doctor.  The doctor and staff will provide a customized detox plan that will work best for you individually.  A typical detox process will range from five to ten days.  Our goal is to remove all of the toxins in your body safely and comfortably.

At the completion of detox you will be ready to begin treatment activities such as working with a case manager, therapist and group work.  This stage is where the foundation for your recovery begins as we address not only the physical but the emotional and psychological effects of the disease.

The Detox and Residential stabilization process typically ranges from 7 to 30 days.

Phase II: PHP and IOP Care

Once a client reaches phase two in treatment the responsibilities for each person increases as does the freedom to make choices before we transition back to work, school, family, and our daily activities.

In phase two a client will attend outside AA and NA meetings as well as the gym, yoga and other healthy activities.  Family and sponsor visits are increased. The course schedule is adjusted allowing more time for resume building and aftercare planning. During phase two we focus on applying our new skills and strength to everyday life.  This second phase is extremely important in successful transition out of treatment and back to our daily lives.

Phase Two typically ranges from 30 to 90 days.

Phase III: OP

Our most successful clients complete all three phases of the Treatment Plan.  The 3rd and final phase is completed on an out-patient and part time basis.  This final phase is only recommended with completion of 90 days consecutive treatment.

A safe and secure environment for living while participating in an out-patient program should be established.  Our case managers will assist you when discharge planning.  It is at this time that the client should return to work, school, family and other responsibilities while supporting their recovery with organized meetings and therapy on an out-patient basis.

Phase Three typically ranges from 90 to 180 days.

The overall length of treatment is generally determined by medical necessity, and the coverage provided by insurance companies can vary greatly.
Note also that in certain rare cases, some detox services might not be covered by insurance at all.
