Dual Diagnosis

Dual Diagnosis Treatment in Orange County, CA

It’s important to treat an addiction to drugs, alcohol or other substances. However, if you are like many other people, it’s equally important to address any kind of mental health issue that co-occurs with substance abuse. This is called dual diagnosis treatment, and this kind of program can be vitally important in creating a strong foundation for your sobriety.

Addictions Treatment Center

Dual diagnosis for substance abuse and mental illness focuses on integrating care for both issues as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. If you are in this situation, you are not alone: There are 8.2 million Americans who have both mental health and substance use disorders, according to the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health commissioned by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. You or a loved one may be coping with depression or anxiety, which has led to misuse of drugs or alcohol, or an addiction has caused a mental health issue—either way, dual diagnosis treatment allows you to not only address the addiction, but also any underlying issues.

Dual Diagnosis Recovery for Substance Abuse & Mental Illness

At Sheer Recovery, we offer you a dual recovery program that will be a key point in your journey towards sobriety.  We have an inpatient dual diagnosis treatment center that is a safe and supportive environment where you can feel comfortable working through the issues surrounding mental health disorders and substance addiction. Our highly trained and very knowledgeable staff members are ready to assist and guide you through this process and to prepare you for the outpatient stage of your treatment plan.

Staying at one of our executive-level residential facilities, you will begin the work of dual diagnosis treatment. The first step is detoxification, where you will receive around-the-clock support for any symptoms of withdrawal you may experience. Once the detoxification phase is complete, you will be assigned a case manager and a therapist who will partner with you to examine the mental, emotional and physical factors that are involved in addiction and mental health disorders. There are also group therapy sessions where your participation is essential in gaining clarity and better understanding of your co-occurring disorders—and that knowledge will be crucial in building a healthy, sober lifestyle.

When the inpatient stage of the program ends, you will be able to take the knowledge you’ve gained during therapy and continue to build upon it as you work on your sobriety on an outpatient basis. You can continue on with therapy, join support groups such as Alcoholic Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous or take any medication that has been prescribed to help you.  With dual diagnosis treatment led by our expert staff, you will learn how your co-occurring disorders are intertwined and how they affect each other. You will be better equipped to build a healthy life in recovery.
